The only person looking out for you is you. The only person in charge of your behavior is you. The only person responsible for you is you.

The sooner you come to this realization the sooner you will understand how it is you can gain control over your life.

Your boss has a limited interest in your behavior or attitude. Your teacher doesn’t care what your morning was like and your friends don’t always have much impact on your personal development and wellbeing. All these people can have an influence in your life whether it be positive, neutral or negative. However, they also have their own lives to lead. You are the only person who is gong to have a vested interest in the quality and path of your life.

I have seen people waste away waiting for a promotion that will never come. I’ve seen people get stuck in a rut and go through every day expecting things to change, but they never do. I’ve seen people blame all of life’s troubles on everything under the sun except themselves.

It takes a great deal of energy and honesty to do a deep dive into one’s own self and evaluate the influences that they are surrounded by to figure out the path to happiness. It starts by asking yourself some simple questions:

  • Am I happy?
  • Are there negative things in my life dragging me down?
  • Are there positive things in my life that I enjoy?
  • What makes me happy?
  • What things do I rely on for my happiness?
  • Are they the right things?
  • How do I take ownership of my own happiness?

Take some serious time to evaluate these basic questions and map out a path to success and happiness.
